Whether you have a family reunion once a year or once a decade there are a few things that you can do to make it a success. Family reunion provide a great place for you to see people that you haven't seen in years and enjoy meeting the newest additions to the family. To make your family reunion a success planning is the key.
First you have to pick a location try to plan a place that is close for the bulk of the family to insure that many people will show up. Take into consideration the family member that will have to travel by having the reunion in an area that provides a lot of options for lodging or have a few of the family member offer up there house as places to stay while they are in town to cut the traveling expenses. Reserving a block of hotel rooms may be the optimal choose for families that tend to get in each others hair this will also save money but be sure to reserve these rooms well in advance if you are planning the reunion on a popular weekend. Plan well ahead to get the most people to come let people know at least a year in advance that you are planning a reunion so that they can plan vacations accordingly. Not only will you want to let the family know that you are planning the reunion but many hotels, camp grounds and restaurants need notice well in advance to insure enough room for everyone that will be attending.
Planning to feed everyone will be one of the most challenging jobs to accomplish. For a one or two day reunion, many families ask everyone to bring along a few prepared dishes or items to make the food at your final destination. Assign each family a category of food or make a list that each member can check off that they are bringing this item. This will avoid everyone bringing chips and dips or all hot dogs but no buns. However, if no one in your family feels like cooking for this party, you can feed your group at a restaurant, or bring in a caterer to handle all of the meal details just remember that this may be an added expenses that you will need to take into consideration. For some families take out is the way to go no one needs to do any cooking and someone isn't stuck at the grill or in the kitchen the entire time, don't feel bad asking the family to chip in but it may be a good idea to let them know the plan in advance.
Activities are the last thing that you need to take in to consideration once everyone has arrived what they are going to do. If you plan a trip to a camp ground or hotel they may have a list of places to see and things to do in the area but if you are having a one day reunion at a park or at someone's house you may be on your own to plan activities. Think of the age groups and things that everyone likes to do. You may only need board games and crayons if you have a pool or are a family that likes to just sit and relax. For those families that always like to be doing something plan group games and trivia activities to entertain everyone. What family doesn't like a good game of football or a scavenger hunt? Competition is what family life is based on have prizes for the winners and maybe a few for the losers so that there are no hurt feeling.
Family reunion can be a lot of fun and at the end of the day spending time with your family is all that matter no matter where you go or what you do. Be sure to remember that day and make it special by providing everyone with a special treat to take home. You can even have them personalized with the family name on them for that added touch. T-shirts make a great favor as well as key chains with the family name or crest on it. Another great favor idea is to provide everyone with a personalized picture frame.
You can get in all sorts of sizes and they are a perfect way to remember the day. A professional photographer could be on hand to take a family photo and then develop them by the end of the trip for everyone to take home in their very own family picture frame. Family reunion favors are a great way to end the time spent together. Think about where you are going and what you are going to do to, to make the favors the best they can be.
