Grandmother and Granddaughter Reunion

Grandmother and Granddaughter Reunion

On the way down to reunite with my granddaughter I had time to think about all the good times we had together when she was a little girl. I hoped she had that Doll house I got for her on her 4th birthday. I understood it has been 13 years and they might have gotten rid of it, but it was a project I wanted to share with her, putting in all the furnishing in this big doll house and having something she can say her grandma and her did together. I also smiled, thinking about the time we got her a Barbie jeep for her 5th birthday and how she was tearing around the yard, her great grandpa was standing out there smiling and watching her play. All of a sudden she went right to her great grandpa on full throttle and stopped within inches of his legs, boy did he turn white, and she then giggled and said Hi Poppo! We all laughed so hard that tears were coming out of our eyes. I knew then she was just like me, a little speed demon! I remember the day that awful cat attacked her; she had so many stitches on that beautiful face. When I saw her after the whole ordeal, she told me that she did not cry and she was a big girl. I remember when she would come up on the weekends to my place in the mountains and play in the old fort that the kids that use to live there built. We had so much fun and we were so close back then!

Then the last time I saw her until today was 13 years ago when my son was in a bad wreck and I asked her mother to please bring her to see my son. I did not know that it would be the last hug and kiss I would get for all those years. Today is a new day and I do not know what to do first! Should I hug her, and then give her a big kiss? Should I just wait and see if she wants that hug? I have seen pictures of her and boy is she beautiful! But that just shows me her beauty not who she is. I have longed for this moment! What is your favorite color, what do you want to do in life, do you remember anything we use to do, and do you remember me?

My son was already at the place we were meeting. I am finally here, but having a hard time finding him. You see my son races cars as a hobby and does his own mechanics. So we all thought we would meet where we can all enjoy the fresh air. OK I found him, darn she is not there yet, but is on her way. My son has 2 boys and they are there to meet their older sister and are very excited.

He just got the call and told me to follow him down to get her at the gate. I followed and was looking and thinking what will I say first? Then she caught my eye! I knew it was her! My son said stay here at the gate and I will get her. I waited and they came towards me and she embraced her dad, then he said to her I have a surprise. She looked at him, smiled and said what dad? He then turned her around and said your grandma. I held open my arms and tears flowed out, she looked at me and ran into my arms and we both said how much we missed each other. We could not quit hugging and crying, all my thoughts disappeared and all I could think about was holding her and telling her how much I love her and how happy my heart was that we were holding each other once again.

The boys were so excited they could not wait where we were all congregated. They came down to meet us half way and ran to dad; the oldest boy went up to her and said, so you are my sister huh? You are cute. My son then introduced the boys to her. The littlest went to her and said hug please.

For the rest of the day we all were smiling so big and tears of joy just came out of nowhere. All of us know and are happy that our oldest is now home! I also look forward to furnishing that Doll House with her; she kept it after all those years! Welcome Home!
