Tweety Tawt You Should Have a Happy Birthday

Tweety Tawt You Should Have a Happy Birthday

Tweety bird is one of Warner Brother's most popular characters and is a great icon to use and hold a Tweety party! This party theme is not solely for kids because adults even love this little yellow bird and the sass he provides to Sylvester on a regular basis.

Obviously the theme color for a Tweety party should be yellow. This canary yellow is an easy find for plates, streamers, balloons and utensils. Print and color pictures of Tweety off the internet and attach them to the wall for added decoration.

Tweety cakes are a cinch for a Tweety party. If you don't feel like paying a bakery to create the cake, shop around for a Tweety cake pan. Once the cake is baked you can decorate the cake with yellow frosting and add the colors for his beak and eyes.

Don't leave Sylvester out in the cold, as he is a great addition to a Tweety party. This black stuttering cat is always trying to catch Tweety but fails time and time again. If you are having children at this party have them color pictures of these two beloved pets. Goodie bags for this party can have rings, stickers, tattoos and other Tweety items to take home.

For an extra fun decoration, get a bird cage and have a stuffed Tweety sit inside and place on a table or hang from the ceiling. Have a large stuffed Sylvester near by peering at the bird. This will make for some great conversation and will add to the decorations of your party.

Try These Unique Family Reunion Ideas

Try These Unique Family Reunion Ideas

A family reunion is such an exciting time, particularly when there will be people there who you have not seen in many years; perhaps even decades.

Whether you are having your reunion at someone's home, or at a special location, the entire family is going to feel ecstatic at the fact that every generation is represented there. In all likelihood you will have grandparents, parents, children and grand children (perhaps even great-grandchildren as well if your family has extended that far!).

So how can you bring the family truly together during your family reunion? Family reunion ideas include all sorts of games and activities, but it can often be hard to think of something that will include members of every age group, particularly the younger ones who may struggle with some activities or simply find others boring.

There is one family reunion game that the whole family will enjoy - puzzles! But not just any puzzle (there's only so much fun you can have with those), but rather a family picture collage puzzle. These specially created puzzles can contain a collage of photos that includes every single member of the family. You can easily have the puzzle created online, by simply sending in your photos to the puzzle company website. They will then take it from there and organize your collection of photos into a beautiful collage which is then printed on to puzzle pieces.

Not only are these collage puzzles extremely fun to do, they will have all members of your family reunion getting into the action and enjoying themselves looking back at past photos whilst completing the puzzle. It truly is a fantastic interactive activity for everyone at your reunion. Some of the great things about choosing a photo collage puzzle activity for your family reunion include:

- It is totally unique
- Everyone can enjoy happy family memories which is really unlike any other type of gift
- You can have fun whilst reliving memories
- The puzzle can be kept forever, and even framed

After everyone has had fun putting the puzzle together and enjoy the photo collage, you could present the gift to the oldest family member. It can then become something that is handed down through the generations.

Family reunion ideas are hard to come by, but having a family picture collage puzzle put together particularly for the occasion will put a smile on everyone's face.

Try These Unique Family Activities to Bring Your Family Together

Try These Unique Family Activities to Bring Your Family Together

Do you wish that your family spent more time together instead of doing separate things like watching TV and surfing the internet? These days families are communicating less and doing more solo activities. This results in bonds that are not as strong as they once were, and even family members not truly knowing much about each other. Undertaking family activities together can strengthen these bonds and provide time where everyone enjoys each other's company without individual distractions.

Photo collage jigsaw puzzles are one activity that will interest the entire family, regardless of age. Kids, adults and grandparents alike can enjoy completing puzzles that contain pieces of family photos. You can order these jigsaws via the internet by simply uploading your chosen photos and letting the graphic designs organize them into a photo collage on puzzle pieces.

Family Reunions

Another great occasion to give out and use photo collage jigsaw puzzles is at family reunions. It truly is fun to look back through your older photos and combine them with some newer ones to be used on the puzzles. For greater effect you can even add text such as the names of family members.

It is a good idea to give the puzzle to someone, such as the eldest grandparent, and it can then be passed down through the generations. If you have a very large family then more than one puzzle will suit.

One of the most exciting activities at the family reunion will be putting the puzzle pieces together to reveal the entire family! You can even buy puzzles with larger pieces to suit those family members with not so great eyesight.

Why a Photo Collage?

  • A family photo collage is 100% unique to your family only
  • It can be framed on the wall, but also used during family activities
  • It creates a keepsake that will last forever and can be passed through the generations
  • You can customize it however you like, choosing the very best and most memorable photos to include

Indoor family activities like puzzles that have real photos on them are suitable for almost all ages. Children as young as two years old will be delighted to see the family members on the photo pieces and will certainly wonder how they got there! Family activities are a fantastic way to bond and simply have fun with your family members. There really is no greater way to enjoy time together than by doing a photo collage jigsaw puzzle.

Tips in Writing a Family Reunion Invitation

Tips in Writing a Family Reunion Invitation

Crafting the best looking family reunion invitations can be both challenging and at the same time engaging. This is because there are a lot of things that can be placed in the card to make it the most eye-catching invitation to be sent out to your family members.

For one, the pictures that you can use should be general in nature and they should be given careful selection since there might be family members who do not approve the image. Yes it might be fun to check on the images that you haven't seen in ages but it is still important that you make the right choice in picking the right picture for your family reunion invitation.

The basics of writing a family reunion invitation are pretty simple. You just have to prepare the paper, the content of the invitation, the picture that would be used for the invitation and most importantly the overall design for the family reunion invitation.

While the other factors are pretty important, the design and the content speaks volumes about the invitation that you will be handing out to your relatives in the near future. So how exactly will you write a family reunion invitation and what are some of the key pointers that you should remember while drafting the invitation.

Start writing an initial draft - Doing a draft will save you a lot of time in the future and it will also help you keep track of the important details.

Keep it Short and Simple - Avoid putting in too many words in your invitation. Remember that you are writing an invitation for your family members and not drafting a college level thesis nor are you submitting an investigative report on the economic crisis. It is better to keep everything simple because it also makes the invitation accessible for everybody in the family from kids who can already read and understand to the family elders who are already having a hard time reading.

Put depth in your content - Don't just put random words in the invitation. Make every word count for your readers.

Describe things - Don't just put digits and other stuff in the invitation without thinking what it would mean. Describing the event will give them a heads up on what they should expect when they arrive at the venue. Digits should also be kept at a minimum and as much as possible should only be limited to just the address and all the important things.

Catch Attention - While most invitations have a set standard of things that can be placed in front of the invitation card, it wouldn't hurt to look for creative things to place on your invitation. This not only grabs the attention of your relatives who might not be inclined to read the missive but it will also help the people who are already excited about the event.

These are only some things that you should really consider when writing your very own family reunion invitation. There are other things that might be applicable in this shortlist but there are still a lot of things that you can add.

Tips For Planning a Successful Family Reunion

Tips For Planning a Successful Family Reunion

Family reunions can be a fun and satisfying way to reconnect with family members who live out of town or have a busy work schedule, or relatives that you just don't see often enough in the course of day-to-day life.

Because most families are spread out over different geographical areas and age groups, organizing a family reunion can often pose a logistical challenge. The success of any gathering lies in the planning and preparation, and this is doubly so when it comes to a family reunion. Use the following tried-and-true tips are to plan a successful family reunion:

1. Pick a Theme & Nail Down Details

The first thing you'll need to decide is what the theme and tone of the reunion will be. Do you want a casual affair with a picnic-style buffet, or a thoroughly organized event with a seating plan and planned activities from start to finish? The type of reunion sets the stage for all of the ensuing details.

Once you know what kind of reunion you're going to hold, you can explore locations that might be suitable and start to consider food, activities, and other details. Keep in mind that party halls and hotel meeting rooms typically book for events months in advance, so plan ahead.

When it comes to food, there are two main options: asking guests to bring a dish potluck-style, or having the meal catered. There are pros and cons to both, especially with larger extended families, but a nice solution is to combine the two by catering most of the food but inviting guests to contribute beloved dishes or desserts.

2. Double-Check The Guest List

It's a family reunion, and everyone is invited... right? Make sure to go over the guest list very carefully to avoid missing anyone. Most organizers could benefit from the assistance of an elderly relative who knows everyone, or the uncle who keeps a complete family tree as a hobby.

3. Send Invitations Well in Advance

Invitations to a family reunion should be sent at least a month and a half in advance, or even earlier if there are relatives who will have to make travel plans in order to attend.

Your invitations can set the tone for the reunion with a poem about the importance of family or a catchy party name. Make sure to mention the dress code-even if it's just "casual dress" or "picnic wear"-and let everyone know if they're expected to bring anything.

One option is to prepare a "save the date" note for anyone living at a considerable distance from the location of your reunion, and send that about to out-of-towners about a month before the official invitation.

Tips for Making a Family Reunion Invitation

Family reunions will be more anticipated by every member if the invitation is made appealing. Making the perfect family reunion invitation should be the preliminary concern of the organizer of any family reunion. So that you will be able to create only best and most perfect family reunion invitation to match the event, here are the things that you should keep in mind:

Determine family reunion's theme. Before organizing a family reunion, you have to decide when the event will take place. What is the significance about that event? Whatever be the case, try to pattern your invitation to match that theme. You can put relevant family pictures on the invitation and show your creativity.Decide what type of materials you are going to use. If you have decided on the theme and the layout, you should be ready on the exact paper you are going to use and how you are going to print out the design. There are a lot of choices available for you. You can either go for a simple paper or a specialty one. There are invitation kits available from craft stores, try to scan them and see which one best matches your idea.

Layout your designs. Conceptualize how the design should look like when it is finally printed on a sheet of paper. You can try adding personal photos in it as well as general pictures. Check out the programs that you can use. The software can really help you so much on layout and the graphical presentation of your family reunion invitation.Select the right font. There are different fonts available for you to choose. Some looks formal while some has a comical look. Whatever may be your theme is, make it a point to match your invitation's font in it.. You are now ready to print. Before you become overeager about it, check your printer and see if everything about it is fine. Check your ink levels first. Is it enough for all the copies that you are going to make? If you are sure everything is in order, you can definitely start printing. Mail your invitations. Ensure that you have the right address and the right recipient's name. Do not make mistake of sending out the invitation to a different person other than for which it is truly intended. Always, double check before sending.Family reunions will certainly be more fun when it is coupled with the right preparation and the perfect invitation. Do not underestimate the powers of an invitation as it will surely determine the number of the persons who will be going and not.

Those Wacky Family Reunions

Those Wacky Family Reunions

Almost all of us think that at least one member of our family is crazy. Many people can also find it hard to understand a certain family and its dynamics. Each family is unique and the combination of the different members forms a complicated mix. Only a brave person can attempt to introduce an outsider to the mess of his or her family.

The complexity or lunacy of a family becomes most apparent during family reunions. However, many people still choose to hold and attend these implosions waiting to happen. There are also some people who make the mistake of bringing along a friend or significant other to these reunions.

A lot of family reunions can suddenly become rough for some reasons. Personally, I have never really looked forward to one, but I have a hard time avoiding them. Maybe it's because I am doomed with a belief that families are connected on some deep level that should be respected or a sense of family loyalty. Most of the time, I end up at the family reunions thrown by my relatives even if I don't want to be there.

The sense of alienation I feel at family reunions is the biggest reason why I do not enjoy them. I feel that most of my relatives are different from me. We are genetically and socially connected, but our political and religious beliefs are somehow radically different. This sense of being unconnected from my close and distant relatives is a major reason why these little get-togethers make me feel so strange.

I can't stop myself from wondering if this alienation is also the reason why most people do not enjoy going to family reunions. If it is, then there is a reason why many of us feel unrelated to our families. On the other hand, maybe we are more alike than we would like to believe. There is also a possibility that it is these similarities that make us uncomfortable with each other.

We see a little bit of our relatives in ourselves, but we are not happy about that for one reason or another. Perhaps our families point out to us the things that we don't like about ourselves and the genetic relationship there makes us feel as though those things are permanent. I know a few people who feel right at home at family reunions, but I just do not believe that all of us can really be all that different from our families.

The Way To Plan a Family Reunion at an Oxnard based Restaurant

The Way To Plan a Family Reunion at an Oxnard based Restaurant

A family reunion is among the most exciting events that can be attended. They are usually pretty uncommon, and a lot of families may only go to one or two during their lifetime. This makes it specifically important that the event is actually a success, and that all loved ones who come to catch up and remember old times are satisfied and comfortable. Extended family may possibly even be travelling from another country, and the occasion should be a seamless and enjoyable affair. Hosting a family reunion in an Oxnard restaurant is an outstanding option to provide the family members with space to mingle and dance, a fabulous range of food, and an event coordinator to assist with getting even the finest details totally perfect.

Indoor or Outdoor Alternatives

An Oxnard area restaurant can provide both indoor and outside seating to support any sized group. A family reunion in the open air in the middle of the afternoon can truly be a memorable experience. Especially if there are loved ones present who have never felt the rays of the California sun. An outdoor occasion pairs beautifully with fresh local produce and cool refreshments.

A more formal family party would work wonderfully with seating inside the restaurant. The group can enjoy a formal dinner with wine pairings suggested by the experienced chefs for a complete taste sensation.

A Coordinator Will Really Help

The on-site coordinator can assist to make the family reunion an unforgettable occasion by arranging a seating and floor plan. This design will allow perfectly created paths for entering and exiting, dancing and socializing. Depending on the guest list supplied by the host, a coordinator can even make a seating plan to provide the smartest approach to organize the guests. Family members who've been genuinely looking forward to reuniting can sit close, and extended family that's relatively unknown can sit with the people that they know and really feel most comfortable with.

A coordinator will also help to plan the rental of the audio and visual equipment. A microphone will be required for speeches and announcements. A projector could be perfect for family slide shows. These extra touches will warm the hearts of the guests, and they are going to really feel appreciated when old pictures of their past, appear before their eyes.

Everything Is Supplied

When individuals attempt to organize events all on their own, it often amounts to a lot more work than they ever could have expected. Organizers and coordinators see issues with a professional eye that the average person can't detect. Even the right centerpiece can make an enormous difference in the overall presentation of the room. One common error is individuals who create their own centerpieces however they are too big, and nobody can comfortably see over them to converse.

A benefit to hosting at a professional establishment is that they will have procedures in place with basic safety in mind. There have previously been incidents where people use tea candles on the tables, and this really is extremely dangerous with guests reaching across the table, or placing the tissue from favor boxes too close. A restaurant will guarantee that nothing at all like this will take place.

A restaurant has everything that's needed for a successful occasion. Even a detail like linens, dishes and utensils seem like such a little component as a basic necessity of a dinner party, they could be quite the effort to rent, transport and return. This can be particularly true after a busy day of talking and dining with long-lost family members. The staff can even coordinate the colors and style to match the nature of the reunion.

A restaurant provides the full set up and clean up of all the equipment, tables and bottles that were used. This really is highly advantageous over a venue where nothing is supplied but the space. Even an outside caterer is at a disadvantage if they're not totally comfortable using the space that they're working in, and what if they forget something? A local Oxnard restaurant has every little thing available on site, and can provide their full services from menu planning to equipment rental.

A family reunion can be a really large occasion to plan. A lot of families require as much time to plan one as they would with a wedding. With so many relatives flying in from across the world, and so much to consider and think about, it makes sense to host at a restaurant where the most overwhelming aspects of event planning is taken care of by specialists who can guarantee a fun and memorable experience.

The Twilight Saga is Full of Unique Twilight Party Ideas

The Twilight Saga is Full of Unique Twilight Party Ideas

Are you planning a party based on the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer? With the books selling over 40 million copies in over 37 countries, Twilight party ideas are going to be very hot this year. Why not start planning your Twilight Party right now.

Twilight Party Invitations

Can you write using Calligraphy? If so, you can copy the lovely font, Carmilla, and write out your invitations in script that looks like Edward's handwriting. Use antique looking paper and take your party guests back to 1918...Edward's era. Use Twilight Clip Art you can find online to decorate your invitations. Add all the important party info , such as:

  • Who
  • What
  • Where
  • When
  • RSVP

Get those mailed right out, and now it's on to other party planning chores.

Twilight Party Decorations

Life size stand ups of Bella and Edward can be purchased online if you'd like to have these two love birds at your party. Imagine the look on everyone's face as they walk into your party and see Edward and Bella! What a great start to your party decorating! These life size cut outs also come with James, Laurent and Victoria...the nomadic vampires, who cause all the trouble in Twilight. Can't afford the cut outs? Or don't want to spend that much money on party decorations? Find pictures of Bella, Edward, Alice, Jasper and the rest of the Twilight Cast in magazines. Cut out the pages and put the pics into photo frames. Scatter them around your party room as though they are the people who live there.

Since the Cullen Family are vegetarians...which means, in vampire talk, that they only drink the blood of animals, your party's decor doesn't have to be the same old bloody, scary Count Dracula Vampire Halloween style decor that we are used to. The Cullen's are a refined family with style, grace and taste.

Many of the party supplies you can use for a Twilight party might be things you already have. How nice will it be able to use decorating items you have and not have to buy more!

Alice Would Use Twinkle Lights

If you remember anything about the parties Alice decorated for, it was all roses and thousands of twinkling lights. So, there's your first party decorating tip... twinkle lights . You can get them in white, or you can be daring and bold with red and black ones. Red and black is a pretty daring decorating statement. Very dramatic. You can use the ideas on the Twilight Saga book covers...Twilight-An apple (red and black), New Moon-A red and white Parrot Tulip (red, white and black), Eclipse-A red satin ribbon against a black background (red and black), and Breaking Dawn- a white Chess piece, the Queen symbolizing Bella, against the black background (white and black). All of these color schemes will work to create a very intense background for your Twilight Saga Party.

Use a Black Table Cloth with white or red dishes. Use white linen napkins and wrap each place setting of silverware in them. Tie them with a red satin ribbon. Place a glass vase on the center of the table and fill it with red and white Parrot tulips... or the roses Alice likes so much.

The Twilight Saga As Decorations

Scatter several copies of the Twilight books around the room. You can use the book covers themselves as decorations. You can set a dish of apples on a table, and have some white chess pieces on the tables around the room. Lay some red satin ribbons on those tables too. You can fill glass cylinders with some shiny Christmas balls. Fill one with black balls, and the other with red.
Twinkle lights will let you keep your regular lights on low and create an intimate feeling. Play the Twilight Sound track and clear an area so those who want to dance can. Keep the music low, so conversations can be heard!

Trivia Games Made From The Twilight Saga

If you are like me, you know all the books of the Saga backwards and forwards. Then you don't have to look for Twilight party games...you can make your own. Just think of all the most interesting facts about the books and characters that you can. Write it down, followed by the answer. An example is: Who turned Jasper? The answer is: Maria. Or where was Alice waiting for Jasper? The diner in Philadelphia. I am amazed by Alice this week, that's why these trivia questions are about her and Jazz. I am always dazzled by Edward. Where did Edward take Bella on their honeymoon? The answer is : Isle Esme. See how easy it is to make your own trivia game!

Twilight Party Music Ideas The Soundtrack to the Twilight Movie of course! You can buy the soundtrack, or you can download some of the songs for free. Try a site like Rhapsody.com. You can also play albums of the groups on the soundtrack. The tunes and groups include:

1. Supermassive Black Hole ~Muse
2. Decode ~Paramore
3. Full Moon ~The Black Ghosts
4. Leave Out All The Rest ~Linkin Park
5. Spotlight [Twilight Mix] ~Mutemath
6. Go All The Way [Into the Twilight]
7. Tremble For My Beloved ~Collective Soul
8. I Caught Myself ~Paramore
9. Eyes On Fire ~Blue Foundation
10. Never Think ~Rob Pattinson
11. Flightless Bird, American Mouth ~Iron & Wine
12. Bella's Lullaby ~Carter Burwell

Twilight Party Food Thoughts

Now what to serve as a party menu for a Twilight Party? I am not a cooking kind of girl, so I always try to go for the easiest party foods out there. I like Pizza and Subs...or a lunch meat tray and rolls. But if you're looking for some sophisticated vampire party menu...I'll give you one. How about:

A red soup...tomato, mushroom ravioli served with some grilled chicken breasts in red sauce. Not bad for a chick who doesn't cook much! Tasty Cullen Punch and Vampire Cupcakes A drink idea is a red punch, call it

Cullen Punch and serve it in a crystal punch bowl of course. Desserts are easier for me...Vampire cupcakes. Red velvet cupcakes with white icing...with two tiny red puncture marks on each one. These are very nice looking...not gory at all. The Cullen Coven would like them!As you can see, these suggestions can help you plan a sophisticated party and a dramatic decorating scheme when you use Twilight Saga Party Ideas.

The Top Inspirational Quotes from Ted Kennedy and Family

The Top Inspirational Quotes from Ted Kennedy and Family

While Ted Kennedy is no longer with us, his actions and his word will long outlive him.

As we mourn the loss of the late Senate icon, many commentators will be writing about the political impact Edward Kennedy has made in his long public service career. Today, I'd like to call attention to an equally important part of his legacy.

In an era of empty sound bites and political speeches written around cheap jokes and partisan applause lines, few brought public oratory to such heights as the Kennedy clan. The Kennedy family dynasty of Teddy, JFK, and Robert Kennedy changed the way that Americans view their political leaders.

The Kennedys used political speech as a tool to inspire bold political projects that would transform society. But they also peppered their political speeches with soaring words and inspiring thoughts about political courage, about success in life, about personal honor – inspiring Americans to be the best in all aspects of their lives.

In honor of Senator Edward Kennedy's recent passing, we've compiled our ten favorite inspirational quotes from the Kennedy family.

Don't sacrifice your political convictions for the convenience of the hour.

- Edward M. Kennedy

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

- Robert F. Kennedy

We must use time as a tool, not as a crutch.

- John F. Kennedy

Each time someone stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.

- Robert F. Kennedy

Life isn't a matter of milestones, but of moments.

- Rose Kennedy

And so, my fellow americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

- John F. Kennedy

Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change.

- Robert F. Kennedy

Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind.

- John F. Kennedy

The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.

- John F. Kennedy

The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die.

- Edward M. Kennedy

"To love means to commit oneself without guarantee, to give oneself completely in the hope that our love will produce love in the loved person." – Eric Fromm

"You can't stop loving or wanting to love because when its right, it's the best thing in the world. When you're in a relationship and it's good, even if nothing else in your life is right, you feel like your whole world is complete." ~ Keith Sweat

"Our greatest joy-and our greatest pain comes in our relationships with others." ~ Stephen R. Covey

"Love doesn't just sit there like a stone; it has to be made - like bread, remade all the time, made new." – Ursula LeGuin

The Perfect Family Reunion Gift

The Perfect Family Reunion Gift

There are some families that have never held a family reunion, perhaps due to geographical difficulties and sometimes because the family is a volatile one and fails to get along!  Some, however, faithfully hold a family reunion every few years and they can turn out to be uproarious and enthusiastic affairs with plenty to eat and drink.

It is rare for a family reunion to be attended by every single member of the family and those absentees are usually sorely missed.  A friendship gift is a great idea, not only for those who are able to attend but also for those who simply cannot be there in person.

We all have friends of a variety: some are business acquaintances with whom we share a working lunch twice a week or so; others are precious childhood companions or the confidantes of our teen years.  Some of our closest and dearest friends, however, are members of our own family; irreplaceable and precious.  A family reunion is a welcome opportunity to touch base and show our best friends how much we think about them.

A friendship gift for family is no different to the kind of gift you might choose for any other valued friend.  Choosing something that may be carried around in a pocket of purse is a great idea and helps a token gift to become something treasured, transferred from one coat pocket to another and always within reach in those moments when a connection is needed.  That reminder to stay positive can make all the difference to a bad day at the office or at school.

Family reunion gifts are often impractical but by choosing a natural stone friendship gift it is possible to give each member of the family something to remember and to mark the occasion.   Natural stone friendship jewelry may be found in quantity and need not cost a fortune – the thought, after all, is what really counts.

A successful family reunion can lead to a regular family party taking place every few years or so – a chance to catch up with the news and views of the closest friends you will ever have.  Commemorating the occasion with a friendship gift is a great idea and helps consolidate friendships and blood ties in way you just don't get with letters and phone calls.

Each year, older family members get closer to the time when they will no longer be available to share a smile with.  It is rare for the elderly to be skilled at sending emails and phone texts: a family reunion provides the opportunity to know older family members more intimately.  Sharing a gift at this time is to share a bond to last through the years, lending a sense of belonging to a family reunion.

The Family Reunion

The Family Reunion

Time Heals All Wounds, We Can Only Hope

Well, the invitations are now out; they look like a hospital menu. Mark - X - for your preference of location, food and games. Standard insurance waiver as always, included.

All families have traditions; gathering for holidays, handing down family recipes, family heirlooms, agreeing that it will not always be the first born that becomes heir to the aging pets of their aging parents (my son insisted on this).

Our family tradition has always been to hold onto grudges and preserve our territorial rights.

Our Great, Great, Great Grandparents left England because they were unable to find sufficient lands beyond one common postal/zip code.

The family has evolved, gaining experience and knowledge from previous reunions. We will never collectively travel on an airline together. You only did this once and learnt that it is truly not worth the discount on bulk purchase. Having recovered from the nine hour flight, your next destination is the beach for sand, sun and fun. Waikiki proved inadequate in size for our family. No matter how early you descended onto the beach, to pace off your section of sand, it was always too late.

We then decide to spend the afternoon at a market, where the local merchants recognize me from pictures they saw earlier from my Aunt Grace, a few commenting that she was right. I do need a holiday.

Camping at National Parks became a favorite for our family. The layout of the campground was large enough to activate various postal/zip codes, if identification became necessary. But the almighty skies told us different. Each and every time we descended on the camp grounds, unpacked, set up the tents, sleeping bags and set up the camp kitchen, it started to rain; not shower, but open bowling alley lanes of water. Noah called asking for directions. The rain would not stop until we posted the white flag of defeat and packed up all the 10 lb soaking wet sleeping bags and 200 pound canvas tents and departed. In hindsight the rain kept us isolated so the most we could complain about was the weather and our campsite neighbors, who seemed to be too tired to join us and were always turning off their kerosene lamps when they heard our footsteps. Grizzly and black bears; cougars and raccoons; leeches and water snakes. All natural to the landscape never ventured into our campground. They knew better. I'm sure like us, they sent out an information bulletin warning of the dangers. Now campers have it easy, they travel in camouflaged Hamlets, with collapsible bay-windows, and satellite dishes. I have always wanted to ask if their camouflaged rigs actually confuse the wildlife.

The Elders Circle at any reunion is sacred ground. It comes in many forms and only a chosen few are told of its location. It can be found in the cook kitchens of the campsite, in the restaurant of a hotel, or folding chairs surrounding a campfire. The rule of the circle is that children are not allowed. Our family has never supported the theory that children are to be seen and not heard; the elders want to hear them so they know where they're hiding. Our DNA has gifted us with bat-like sonar hearing, allowing Grandma to carry on the rumor that unlike Doberman Pinchers, they have never had to tape the children's ears. They flock to the circle in disguise, forgetting that the elders have heard all the tricks and excuses before and then leave on the promise that ice cream cones are coming. The elders, being the apostles of grudges have kept track of who is speaking to whom and why. They believe reunions are a chance to sort out the grudge book and of course assign the appropriate sentence to its newest members. You are wise to find out in advance, what table you should be sitting at or you will probably be written up.

At the end of the last reunion there were write-ups ranging from an innocent pot of chili, that was presented as prepared from an ancestral family recipe, to later being found out to have come from a restaurant; to an out of province family arriving early and parking their truck and trailer underneath the oak tree, taking the designated area for the elders circle. Of course they volunteered to move, but the Elders wouldn't hear of it.

Looking at my invitation I see that the family is calling for signed releases this year, after all you can never be sure what will happen. Last reunion Aunt Ruth was walking to the kitchen when she was hit in the head with a rogue horseshoe. Poor thing still suffers from migraines and will always blame her late husband Harley for intentionally throwing it at her. So, in the future all horseshoes will not be thrown above the knees. They are also confirming that field chalk is mandatory. This is so that your 200 foot territory can be identified and no one can cross over.

We will love and cherish each other to the ends of the earth and defend each other's right to be a little quirky.

As grandmother always said, you can't pick family.

The Changing Face of the American Family

The Changing Face of the American Family

Fifty years ago, the American family consisted of two married parents who were usually of the same ethnic background and their children. Times have definitely changed. Today, children are being raised in households with every type of family unit imaginable.

Interracial relations have become more commonplace than they were a few years ago. The children that are a result of these relationships do not have to deal with the problems and challenges that were faced by ethnically mixed children of the past. That does not mean that they have no problems at all, however. Teaching your child to embrace and celebrate their race can help build their self esteem and help them to feel as though they "fit in" with other children.

Unfortunately, divorce has also become more commonplace in today's society. Some researchers estimate that 80% of all homes are headed by a single parent, usually the mother. This situation can be extremely difficult for children, especially little boys, who need a male role model in their lives. If you are divorced and do not have custody of your children, you should try to remain as involved in your children's lives as you can.
You and your ex spouse should also agree not to talk negatively about each other in front of the children. This can lead to the children to feel hostile towards the absent parent.

Another type of American family that is becoming more common is couples who choose to live together without marriage. Many of these couples claim that they are happier than their married counterparts as they stay in the relationship because they want to, not because they feel as though they have to. Some of these partners have been together for years and share a good relationship with their children. When asked, most of these couples state that they are married as far as they are concerned. The children that are growing up in this type of family unit do not seem to be detrimentally affected by these circumstances.

More American families consist of a grandparent who is raising her grandchildren. For one reason or another, the child's own parents cannot raise their children. To prevent their grandchildren from entering the foster care system, the grandparent steps in as the main provider. This situation can cause a number of difficulties. A retired grandparent may need to go back to work in order to financially support her grandchildren. These older individuals may not have the stamina that is required in caring for these youngsters. This type of family also destroys any normal grandparent/grandchild bonding as the grandparent is no longer a trusted friend but is now an authority figure.

Not quite as common are children that are being raised by same-sex parents. As gay marriages continue to be legalized in more and more states, this type of family may occur more often. This type of situation will create its own set of problems, including custody issues if one parent leaves or dies unexpectedly. There will need to be new legislature passed to deal with the issues of children in a same-sex family unit.

The traditional American family is becoming a thing of the past. To help your children deal with the issues that pertain to your type of family, you may need to talk to a family therapist or other type of family professional.

The Best Way to Take Great Photos of a Family Reunion

The Best Way to Take Great Photos of a Family Reunion

There isn't a better opportunity to get some wonderful pictures of your family than at the next family reunion. Most families only have one time of year that such a large number of the relatives gather together in one location. Chances are good that you will only see a few of your relations during this once-a-year event. Even though taking pictures of the whole entire family is difficult at times, you can get some fantastic and memorable photos if you plan ahead.

Usually instead of employing a professional, families will count on amateur members of the family to catch the great memories. Group photos of the whole family are difficult to capture but worth their weight in gold, particularly years down the road when some of the members of the group are no longer among the living. Keep in mind the following tips when you are capturing shots of the family:

• Take time in advance to prepare. Preparing in advance for taking photographs at the family gathering is a wise move. Come up with a list of all the pictures you know you would like to get, as well as any specific groups of people you will want to get photos of. Determine exactly where you will want the pictures taken.

• When possible, have your whole family coordinate their clothes. If everyone has a got a special tee-shirt made for the get-together then that would be even better. If they don't, then just ask that everybody wears a certain color, maybe blue or black. If you steer clear of stripes and patterns, or vibrant colors, then no single person will stick out in your group picture.

• Make sure you will have enough good lighting for your family reunion shots. Every camera has a limited range on its flash. The time to get the best natural lighting is outside in the morning or right before dusk. It can also be a good idea to take outside pictures on a gloomy day. Do not ever take pictures in the direct sunlight. One good way to take a group photograph at your family reunion is to have the group stand in full shade when facing the camera.

• Take advantage of the natural surroundings of your reunion location when taking pictures. Bleachers, benches, and stairs make for great photos where you wish to stagger the heights of your subject. A big group may also be positioned around playground equipment. Steer clear of busy backgrounds that take away from the picture's subject matter. You might also consider an aerial view of your family. To accomplish this, stand up on a ladder or balcony, looking down at the group while they are looking up at you.

• Think about where you are going to hang the picture. When you place the photo in a picture frame, will it have to be a vertical or horizontal shot? Keeping this small point in mind can make a shot good or bad, and will establish which way you would like your subjects to pose.

You'll find these hints very helpful for making picture time fun and simple at your next family reunion.

The African American Contribution To Family Reunion Planning

The African American Contribution To Family Reunion Planning

It seems of late that many families who seldom considered coming together as one big fat family are giving it serious thought. So who's behind the growing sensation to celebrate family ties igniting the family reunion fire? Is it an African American sensation that's gaining momentum such momentum that other cultures are falling in line or are other factors causing the great family reunion movement? Lets examine the hype vs. the facts.

One factor leading to the opinion that the family reunion movement orginates with African American families is a considerable amount of media blitz centered around African American family reunion celebrations.

A recent blockbuster movie called Madea's Family Reunion centered on social issues impacting an African American family in need of strength and support made possible only from a reunion of four generations of family. If anything the movie ignited controversy regarding the quality of relationships and how to deal with strained marital relationships and juvenile discipline issues. Still Tyler Perry's movie, featuring world renowned award winning actress Cicely Tyson and Philanthropist/ Poet and writer Maya Angelou and the ever popular Blair Underwood, is now in the main stream of American entertainment and with that the issues associated with family life and family reunion events.

Hype Factor: The Media seems to crank out more top 10 hits based on family reunions by Black artists than others. Among the more popular songs about family reunion celebrations are the following:

The Ojays "Family Reunion". Al Greens "Love and Happiness", Sly & The Family Stones "It's a family affair", "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge reached #2 in 1979, Lionel Richies recent award winning album "Coming Home" with 75,000 copies sold in its first week out. And then there are the scores of line dance remixes by black artists.

Aside from the hype factor surrounding family reunions celebrated by African Americans in the entertainment world over the past 30 years there are other significant underlying reasons as to what is igniting the fire to celebrate ones family ties.

Fact: There are long-time family traditions dating back to the early 1700's and beyond including family quilt making, family song and dance themes that have migrated into American culture along with the people who brought it. These include Russians, Jews, Africans, Indians and others of Scottish and Irish decent.

Fact: Not only is family reunion a popular theme among blacks artists, family unity has been an ongoing subject in popular country western music since it's inception into the music market. Family celebration themes can be found in the music of most American cultures.

There is a growing sensation sparking family reunion celebrations with various themes, from the traditional homestead celebration to genealogy tours. One of the factors contributing to this is the ability to research ones roots using genealogy tools featured on many sites online. The Internet is fairly teaming with surname lookup search engines, archives and libraries helping the novice/amateur and professional genealogist dig deeper than ever before finding buried historic treasures previously untapped.

Many foreign and civil governments programs have become more cooperative regarding Assisting groups and individuals to locate long missing family members. Council directives on the right to family reunification are designed to give support to families separated by government and social boundaries. Family reunion immigration programs have made a significant contribution to sparking family reunion celebrations of late.

Adoption agencies have begun working closely with Adoption search agencies to reunite long missing siblings and parents with children. Such unions often trigger a desire to go the whole gamut and bring grands, aunts, uncles and cousins together. The strong sentiments behind uniting missing family members often ignite a powerful desire to celebrate family unity that can last for generations.

Do these factors indicate that genealogy research, government and foreign policy more strongly influence the family reunion sensation of the day? Not necessarily. Education along with large social events must also be considered. Of note is the Family Reunion Institute at Temple University in Philadelphia, the only institute of its kind in the country that is dedicated to serving as a resource to families planning reunions and helps keep the reunion tradition alive.

On a social level the Annual Tom Joyner Family Reunion sponsored by none other than Uncle Ben's is dedicated to awareness of the family unit. A recent city-wide family reunion celebration led Philadelphia Mayor W. Wilson Goode to proclaim it "Black Family Reunion Day" among the estimated 200,000 persons who attended.

There is the Annual Ebony Black Family Reunion Tour to inspire black families to come together," says Nichole Taylor it's president. Other major events include The Annual African American Family Reunion and Cultural Festival and the 19th Annual Midwest Regional Black Family Reunion Celebration in Cincinnati, OH.

There are also the growing offerings of special family reunion tours, genealogy related travel and cruise packages featured by top travel and hospitality agencies that are keeping the embers burning.

That said, it must be acknowledged that African American institutions along with other social, government and foreign policy programs have made significant contributions to the popularity of traditional and not so traditional family reunion celebrations of today. These combined contributions have impacted social events and caused a stir seemingly for the better as the interests in family reunions appear to be charged and growing.

"The tradition of uniting the family in order to publicly celebrate births, memorialize deaths, speak of legends, make social and family contributions is a thing imprinted on the mind, heart and soul of many communities both predominantly black and otherwise the world over." says Mark Askew, founder of the Family Reunion Planner resource at http://family-reunion-planner.fimark.net.

For families of various ethnic persuasions the uniting of generations of family members is a universal family tradition that's been alive and well since the chronicling of oral and written family history began. Still what we learn from the African American family reunion tradition is the need to keep the fires burning, drawing strength, support and building strong family sentiments that hone the skills of family unity for generations to come.

If you're thinking of having a family reunion there are many software and book titles that can guide you through the process of planning, organizing and throwing a memorable family reunion.

Thank You Quotes - What You Should Be Thankful For

Thank You Quotes - What You Should Be Thankful For

As the old saying goes, "No man is an island." This means that without a doubt, at a certain junction in your life, you are going to need the help of another person. You may not even have to go out actively looking for it, it may just come to you in the form of a kind gesture, words of encouragement, a hug, or a pat on the shoulder, but it will happen. What you should remember is that when it does, it is only right to extend your thanks.

In truth, in life, no matter how solitary a person you may seem to be, there are many things that we can be thankful for. Seemingly mundane actions have the potential to make big changes in our future. Thus, we should be keen in recognizing all the things, no matter how small, that we should be grateful for.

Just in case you're struggling to find what those things are, there are many thank you quotes available in books and the Internet that can inspire you in looking for the things, situations, and people that you should appreciate. Allow me to begin that inspiration by sharing some of the most wonderful quotes that I have come to read.

"O Lord, who lends me life; lend me a heart replete with thankfulness."-William Shakespeare
- One of the greatest writers we have had in history, Shakespeare, in this short quote, identifies the most fundamental yet most important fact that we have to be appreciative of--our life. We cannot take it for granted that we are alive. We must continue to acknowledge what a blessing it is, regardless of where you believe that life came from.

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."-Marcel Proust
- This is one of the thank you quotes that is most inspiring. If you are lucky enough to have family and friends who have always been there to support you and contribute to the joy in your life, you should always be thankful to them and actually show it. You don't need a relationship counselor to tell you what a great impact expressing appreciation for someone special in your life will do to strengthen the bond between you.

"No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude."-Alfred North Whitehead
- As mentioned earlier, we don't live in a vacuum. There are people in our live who are, partially or wholly, responsible for the accomplishments that we have achieved. No one has made it to the top on his or her own. So, be humble and extend your gratefulness to the ones who have helped you become the success you are now.

Allow me to close this article with one of the most wonderful thank you quotes that I have stumbled upon, which inspires us to take that extra step in showing our gratitude, not merely through what we say but also by what we do.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."-John F. Kennedy

Take One of These Old Fashion Cakes To Your Next Family Reunion!

Take One of These Old Fashion Cakes To Your Next Family Reunion!

What better place to serve an old-fashion cake that at a family reunion. If you don't have one of grandma's in your files, try one of these from my collection of old-fashion recipes.

PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKES WITH PECANS

Once boxed cake mixes became popular, American housewives loved using them. This became our easy pineapple upside down cake. I like making this recipe in the two round pans, having one for my family and one to share with others. Keeps us from overeating, although at this stage of my life it usually means an extra that one of the kids can take home with them! This cake can be made in a 9 x 13 oblong pan just as easily. The 9 x 13 is probably better for a family reunion.

1 stick butter (1/2 cup)

1 packed cup of brown sugar

2 cans (8.5-oz) pineapple slices, drained, halved

maraschino cherries as needed

pecan halves as needed

1 box (2-layer size) yellow cake mix

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Divide the butter in half and melt each half over low heat in a 9-inch round cake pan. Or put pans in the oven and allow butter to melt in the pans; this just takes a little longer. Sprinkle half the brown sugar over the butter in each pan. Arrange 1 can of the pineapple slices per pan over the brown sugar. Arrange cherries and pecan halves around the pineapple slices to make a pretty pattern. Set aside.

Prepare the cake mix as directed. Pour half the batter over the fruit in each pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes until a wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Immediately invert cakes onto serving plates. Leave the pan over the cake for a few minutes until it gently lifts off.

Variation: Since peach is my favorite fruit, I like to substitute well drained peach slices for the pineapple.

T-Shirts - The New Art Canvas

T-Shirts - The New Art Canvas

Nothing can be more gratifying than designing your own T-shirt. Why? because once the design is done you can put your newly created craft on display for all to see and admire. T-shirt art or as I like to call it, wearable art is a great conversation piece and a way to celebrate the times of your life one shirt at a time.

Choosing The Art
To start consider what you would like to display on your shirt. Are you an artists, crafts-person or like to dabble and doodle. Just take a digital picture of your work, upload it to your computer and edit. Your work is now ready to print on a transfer.

Art Alternatives
If you're like me you may choose to go online to find some inspiration. Two ways to do this is by Googling t-shirt art and getting hundreds of great ideas that way. Another way to get inspiration is frequenting sites that specialize in t-shirt clipart for download.

What You Say?
T-shirts can say a lot about you. How you feel about family, the earth, food, economics, social issues, and friends. When considering the kind of t-shirt art that best expresses who you are consider where you'll be when wearing your art. While the art, slogan and text can compliment or enhance the event you attend it can also detract from it. Always choose art, slogans and text that's in good taste.

Transfer Paper
Once you've found the art you want to transfer to your shirt your next task is to find good transfer paper. If you are transferring art onto a white shirt all that is needed is a transparent transfer sheet. If your transferring onto a colored shirt use colored shirt transfer sheets only.

Transferring Your Art
Follow the instructions on the transfer package for perfect results. It is best to practice transferring art on material or an old shirt before actually transferring it on your shirt. It also won't hurt to experiment with two or three shirts in case the first transfer fails. After some practice you'll being transferring art to shirts with greatest of ease.

Print On Demand Option
While you can find clipart anywhere, much of it is not high resolution art and so may not work well for t-shirt transfer work. Consider using your own digital photos or use art from the professionals. That said, make it a point to download art from sites that specialize in t-shirt art like Zazzle or Cafepress.

Successful Planning of a Family Reunion

Successful Planning of a Family Reunion

A successful family reunion requires great planning. Many family reunions are planned years in advance with careful planning for the place, the time, the menu, the keepsakes (such as Family Reunion T Shirts), the decorations and the entertainment. Most family reunions these days require a healthy budget to pull off the unforgettable event.

To plan the event, it is a great idea to Involve various, reliable members of the family, including youngsters and form committees to tackle individual aspects of the family reunion. This will help ensure that the event runs as smoothly as possible. Some key committees are the finance committee (to oversee the expenses), hospitality committee (to welcome everybody on the grand day), travel committee (scout host locations and book flights and hotels), food committee (to arrange catering and/or organize pot-luck) keepsake and prizes committee (to produce Family Reunion T Shirts and other keepsakes), entertainment committee (to make sure there are fun and games for all ages), the media committee (for video and cameras to remember the special day) and communication committee (compile a mailing list and notify family members of the time and place).

The finance committee is perhaps the most important because each of the various other committees will need to know the budget in which they have to work with. Be sure to trust someone in the family who may have experience working with money and allocating budgets to head this committee.

The hospitality committee would be responsible for making each individual family member feel welcome and special on the day of the family reunion. Of course some of the friendliest and out-going members of the family would love this particular responsibility. A 'Welcome Address' would kick off the day and should be given by someone in the family who is a great public speaker.

The travel committee is necessary to establish the location of the reunion and be sure that it's easy for family members to make it there. Booking event halls, parks or other locations as well as flights, hotels and other modes of transportation would be this committees main duties.

The food committee would need to establish if the event would be a pot-luck, a home-cooked meal or a catered affair. The most popular family reunions are Bar-B-Q's, which can be as simple as hot dogs and hamburgers, or include BBQ chicken, bratwurst and/or kabobs. Sometimes, if the budget allows, a catered event may relieve some stress as well as provide a gourmet meal to the entire family.

The keepsake and prizes committee would have fun creating and arranging keepsakes, such as Family Reunion T Shirts, key chains, hats, and other fun ideas which will remind the family member of the fantastic event for years to come. You can make your own shirt or have custom t shirts made. Family Reunion T Shirts are a fun and easy way to be part of the group on the day of the event and provide a cherished reminder of the fun day.

The entertainment committee can arrange fun for adults and children alike. Games and activities for all age groups can be planned as well as specific entertainment for the children such as clowns, magicians or simply provide toys and books. Fun games and activates for all ages include croquet, scavenger hunts and time capsules.

The media committee would be sure to capture all of the memories of the family reunion. They would be sure that enough videos and photographs were taken and possibly proved disposable cameras for everyone to use throughout the day. A fun idea would be to create Family Reunion T Shirts that include a family group photo taken on the day of the reunion and send it to all members as a surprise.

The communication committee will get on the phone and email to gather a mailing list of the entire family. When the time and place have been decided, a 'save the date' note would be sent to all. After some initial planning, a more detailed mailing could be sent with more information about the theme of the party, the food and the entertainment taking place.

Although family reunions can require a lot of hard work and planning, the experience of gathering with numerous members of your extended family for a fun filled event is worth the effort. All of your careful planning will ensure that happy memories are made and remembered for years to come.

Steps to Getting Along With Difficult Family Members

Steps to Getting Along With Difficult Family Members

My pregnant daughter just called me to complain (again) about her paternal grandmother. This has become a daily phone call. My son called me from work "Mom, can't we see Aunt Ila and Lucas and they could just once leave HER home?" Our nephew doesn't make a habit of phoning me, however he did tell his mom he wasn't coming down to visit this time if they had to stay with HER. My sister-in-law popped for a hotel room.

Every family has a member that rubs the rest of the clan the wrong way. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of biblical rule, if not, then it must be in the bylaws passed by the federal government of every country.

Now I'm not a psychologist or a family counselor-but due to my two now wonderful adult children, I have been through enough therapy to give advice on the subject of getting along with difficult people. Especially those that we love (or have to for the sake of a loved one).

1. PICK YOUR BATTLES CAREFULLY. Decide what you can ignore and what you can't. For example: I hate when people aren't honest. I don't mind if you disagree with me. I don't care if you don't like me. But I won't put up with duplicity. Just tell me the truth. Some people it's laundry, money or a personal dress code. Whatever you do, don't chose every little nitpicky event and yell about it. Oh, and when you go to war-do it quietly. I've found my low voice or even silence is a very powerful tool in fixing a problem area.

2. STAY AWAY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. That's right. There is always another room, someone else you can talk too or just bow out of the event if you have to lower yourself to the main offender's behavior.

3. USE THESE TWO PHRASES AND THEY WILL END MANY A PROBLEM. My husband an I learned these words from a family therapy seminar and they turned into our favorite rebuttals during the teenage years: Regardless of.../Nevertheless...
Now I know these sound simplistic but picture this: teen doesn't want to do homework and starts to yell at you.
You respond: Regardless of how you hate English, you have to do the assignment.
Or your mother-in-law hates that you won't take her on vacation. You respond: Nevertheless, our plans have been finalized and you are not going.

4. IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NEW TO ADD. This is our third favorite for the "comeback" on #3. When the challenger rebuts you simply say: I have heard what you had to say, if you have nothing new to add, we are done here.

Then simply walk away, read a book/newspaper, make a phone call or retire to the bathroom. The key to making these steps work is reacting by NOT reacting.

Oh, I used these phrases on my pregnant daughter just now.

Sarah, I know your grandmother is extremely trying, nevertheless, for your father's and aunt's sake, you'll have to put up with her for a visit. I have heard how much you dislike her, if you have nothing new to add to your long list of complaints-we're done.

I added-this is really good practice, pretend you have to take care of your two year old who is just about to throw a tantrum. Stay calm, quiet and ignore the bad behavior. It goes away, eventually.

Social Worker Quotes - Inspiration and Guidance

Social Worker Quotes - Inspiration and Guidance

Jane Addams, who is considered the mother of social worker said "Civilization is a method of living, an attitude of equal respect for all men". She is known for being one of the famous social workers of all time, using her training and education to do only good. Being a therapist, while it may not be one of the most high-paying jobs of all time, appeals to many people because it gives them the opportunity to help others and make the world a better place for children to grow up in. There are many different types of social work, including jobs which work directly with kids as well as families, groups and individual adult counseling.

The term is rather broad, and can be applied to many different people who work in various parts of the country's system that is designed to help people in a variety of ways. Jill Ruckelshaus said "The family is the building block for whatever solidarity there is in society." She understood the core value that a family has in society. She worked closely with many other counselors to provide children with a safe and loving home environment. Many of the women who have been inspirational have created the building blocks on which we stand today. They walked the walk and were not just arm chair thinkers.

Social work is about many different things, but above it all is helping our fellow man. Those social workers who have been quoted saying things such as the statements above lived up to what they said each and every single day. Being a social worker is perhaps one of the nobler, self-sacrificing jobs out there because of the notoriously low pay and difficult working conditions. Not only do many take on enormous responsibility in terms of sheer case load, but also emotional baggage that can often times have an effect on oneself. Weekend work can be involved as well as phone calls outside of work.

Many times social workers are forced to deal with very emotional issues concerning children who grow up in abusive homes and must suffer through unimaginable things. The inner satisfaction of having helped another person, especially a child, is very gratifying. Throughout history there have been many great social workers, many of which are unknown because of the nature of this work. They are not typically viewed as being inspirational people in society, though they are truly the definition of working class heroes. Burn out is also a problem from this work and the low pay so it's important to take care of oneself.

Most of the inspirational counselors of our time have been women, though men do occasionally hold such positions. Those who are interested in pursuing social work as a career will want to be aware of both the pay and the kind of work which will be required, depending on which section of social work you want to go into. Social workers perform numerous tasks relating to the health, safety, and well-being of others. It's also important to find a good school that has classes and mentoring to fit your interests.
